LAVIET's capsule collection, "From the Heavens: trời sanh tánh," showcased on May 15th, 2026, for Interwoven by LaViet: AAPI Heritage at the Gillespie Gallery of Art. As the closing act, LaViet showcased inspiration from nature’s strength and beauty, while paying homage to the traditional Vietnamese áo dài.
Sculpted by gentle ocean waves and thundering lava flows, LAVIET unveiled the Earth-inspired áo dài collection, "From the Heavens: trời sanh tánh," with the Vietnamese phrase translating to, "heaven gives you your nature."
When LaViet’s designer, Camille Do, visited Vietnam in 2023, she saw the country through the lens of a geoscientist, witnessing grand landscapes shaped by tectonic collisions, unrelenting rivers, and ancient volcanism. As each person comes into existence, each of us are given a unique nature, often reflecting different elements of the Earth, and to capture this essence, LaViet explored and designed fabrics with pearly sheens, soft clay textures, and fiery eruptions.
Destruction, transformation, resilience, softness, and renewal… These words described the spirit of Vietnamese people from all over the world, similar to Vietnam’s geologic history. Although the diaspora spread far and wide, the core remained the same. "From the Heavens: trời sanh tánh,” united models with Vietnamese heritage to proudly declare no matter how far apart our people are, together, we have woven a beautiful story with a rich history.
